Fox Sports Radio Continues Support Of Barry Zito’s Strikeouts For Troops

LOS ANGELES (April 18, 2006) – Fox Sports Radio returns for a second season as the official sports radio network of Strikeouts For Troops™, a national program founded by Oakland A’s Pitcher Barry Zito in which players pledge money for their accomplishments on the field for the benefit of wounded troops and their families. In the past year, nearly $150,000 in contributions was raised by players and the public.

This Thursday, April 20, Fox Sports Radio will kick off its support of the organization as JT “The Brick” hosts FOX Game Time ReAct live from Barry Zito’s Strikeouts For Troops Celebrity Bash,” an event celebrating the one-year anniversary of the organization. Broadcasting from 7-11 p.m. PT at the Pyramid Alehouse in Walnut Creek, Calif., JT will take calls from troops allowing them to speak to players participating in the program.

Throughout the season, Zito and other associated players will appear weekly on The Drive on Fox with Chris Myers between noon and 4 p.m. PST to give listeners an update on the latest Strikeouts For Troops news and talk baseball with the hosts and listeners. Other players participating in the program, including Curt Schilling (Red Sox), Tim Hudson (Braves), CC Sabathia (Indians) and Jake Peavy (Padres), will guest on additional Fox Sports Radio programming throughout the week.

About Strikeouts For Troops™
Strikeouts For Troops™ is a non-partisan program developed to honor U.S. military service members and assist those being treated for their injuries at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda Naval Hospital, and other military hospitals—far from home and family. Strikeouts For Troops helps to provide some “comforts of home” and assists with travel and housing expenses to help those injured recuperate with loved ones near.

Strikeouts For Troops was introduced on April 5, 2005 after Barry Zito had the privilege to visit with soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. For more information about Strikeouts For Troops or to make a contribution, please visit http://www.strikeoutsfortroops.org.
