Barry Zito And Friends Host Strikeouts For Troops Holiday Celebrity Bash Fundraiser

Creek, CA (December 7, 2006) --Barry
Zito, founder of Strikeouts For TroopsTM,
a national program designed to help our war
wounded soldiers and their families, will
host a Holiday Celebrity Bash on Monday,
December 11. The festivities begin at 6:30
until 9:30 p.m. at the Pyramid Alehouse,
1410 Locust
Street, in Walnut Creek and is presented
by “Sprint
together with Nextel.”
Joining Zito will be an all star lineup
of Nick Swisher, Athletics, CC Sabathia,
Indians, Tony La Russa, Cardinals, Eric
Byrnes, Diamondbacks, Coco Crisp, Red Sox,
Barry Sims, Raiders and former NFL great,
Jerry Rice. The bash will
include a buffet dinner,celebrity bartenders,
live auction, raffle and autograph opportunities.

In less than two years, more
than $250,000 has been raised through Zito’s
own contributions and from those of over
35 players from various professional baseball
teams, fundraising events, and fan donations.
In addition to the assistance provided
to the soldier’s and their families
for their welfare and special needs, contributions
have funded holiday dinners at military
hospitals, bought Christmas gifts for families
of patients unable to afford them, and
helped build a hospital children’s
center where kids can stay while their
parents tend to their medical needs.
"I am so proud that so many people
are coming together to make a difference
in the lives of our wounded soldiers and
their families. They really are our
true heroes in uniform," said Barry
Zito. "Many are recovering in hospitals
far from home and family - I saw this first
hand when I had the honor of visiting Walter
Reed Army Medical Center and spent time
with our soldiers. To be able to help provide
them with a wonderful holiday is really
special too.”
A limited amount
of tickets are available to the Holiday
Celebrity Bash for a $95 contribution
per person and can be purchased at www.strikeoutsfortroops.org. Corporate
sponsors are Sprint Together with Nextel,
Pyramid Alehouse, and Printsight.com.
Strikeouts For Troops is a national project funded by
contributions to the "Strikeouts For Troops Fund" at The Community
Foundation For the National Capital Region. Strikeouts For Troops is a non-partisan program developed
for the sole purpose to honor U.S. service
members and assist our war wounded by helping
to provide "comforts of home."
